The KING of game fish won't know you paid less!

Tarpon Catch

THE OPERATION: Lucky One Charters was the first independent charter operation in Barra del Colorado, Costa Rica. The operation began when Edwin "Guinder" Clark from Barra del Colorado and Todd Staley from Indian Rocks Beach, Florida teamed up together to offer complete Tarpon and Snook fishing adventures to the jungle rainforests of Costa Rica and southern Nicaragua. From the time your plane touches down in the capital city of San Jose until your return home all minor details are taken care of for you.

YOUR FISHING VESSEL: The Lucky One is a 23 foot custom designed open fisherman with T-Top, big enough to offer some shade while small enough not to interfere with fly casting. The boat is equipped with full electronics, Coast Guard approved safety equipment, and has two comfortable swivel chairs mounted in the stern and a bench seat in front of the center console. Two or three anglers can fish comfortably. The Lucky One has conventional, spinning, or fly tackle available in its fishing arsenal and is proud to be sponsored by Triple Fish Line, Lowrance fishfinders and satellite navigation, Ross Marine Radio, Diawa, MirrOlure, and 12 Fathom Jigs. All tackle and lures are supplied at no extra cost.

YOUR CAPTAIN: Guinder Clark grew up on the banks of the Rio Colorado and began guiding professionally at the age of 14 when lodge owners in Barra del Colorado took notice of his knack of catching snook. He knows every nook and cranny of the 96,000 hectare Barra del Colorado wildlife reserve and has spent his entire life fishing these waters. For over two decades he has been guiding tourists on adventures of a lifetime. Fluent in English, Guinder is an expert with fly, spin casting or conventional equipment and an excellent fly fishing instructor. Trek Safaris, who has been booking hunting and fishing trips all over the world for over 20 years, recently named Guinder "the best tarpon guide in Central America." Guinder has guided fishing greats Lefty Kreh, Stu Apte, and Dan Blanton on their Costa Rica expeditions and was the guide when Joe Judge took his world record tarpon on two pound test line. He has been featured on many fishing television programs and in sportfishing magazine articles. On his days off, he goes fishing!

YOUR TRIP COORDINATOR: Todd Staley grew up on Indian Rocks Beach, Florida and caught his first tarpon at the age of 10. Thirtysome years and 1000 tarpon later he says his next tarpon hook up will be as exciting as his first. In Florida Todd made a living as an outdoor writer and fishing lure manufacturer. In 1986, he and partner Wade Stephenson invented and introduced the 12 Fathom Jig to Boca Grande Pass, Florida. The lure changed the way many anglers fished for tarpon in the pass and anglers started winning big money tournaments using the lure. This past season, the 12 Fathom Jig was banned from use in Boca Grande tournaments and participants were forced to use live bait. It is the first time an artificial lure was named an unfair advantage over live bait in a fishing tournament. In 1991 the late Archie Fields brought Todd to Costa Rica to run his world famous Rio Colorado Lodge. He spent over 4 years in charge of the operation including a tenure with the new owner after Archie's death before teaming up with Guinder to form Lucky One Charters.
