Osprey - The Osprey is one of the larger birds of prey found in Costa Rica; a fully mature adult will usually grow to over half a meter in height. It differs from most other raptors in that it feeds predominantly on fish and so establishes its territory over sheltered bays, lagoons or canals. This bird hunts by swooping down onto its prey and skillfully snatching it from the surface of the water with huge, curved talons. It then carries the fish to a nearby perch to eat it.
