Poás Volcano
Poás Volcano - The active crater of Poás volcano has a diameter of 1.3 kilometers, making it one of the widest in the world. It is not unknown for the lagoon within the crater to register a pH value of zero, signifying extreme acidity. During the dry season this lagoon dries and sulfur emissions rise, leading to increased acid rain precipitation in the area. It has been calculated that Poás releases up to 500 tones of carbon dioxide gas per day into the atmosphere.
