QUINTET OF THE AMERICAS

The Quintet, started in Bogotá (1976) by the principal players of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia, is today a leading interpreter of folk and contemporary music, including woodwind music from North and South America. QUINTET OF THE AMERICAS has premiered over 50 works, commissioned over 20 new pieces for the woodwind quintet repertoire, and made numerous arrangements of its own.

MARCO GRANADOS, flutist - Native of Venezuela, soloist for three consecutive seasons with the New York City Symphony at Alice Tully Hall and Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. Soloist with Philharmonia Virtuosi of New York, Juilliard Chamber Orchestra, Haydn Festival Orchestra of Maine, L'Orchestra in the Bershires, and with members of the Cleveland Orchestra. He has appeared with oboist Heinz Holliger in Germany and with flutist William Bennett in London. MARY WATT, oboe Bachelor and Master of Music from the Juilliard School in 1982. She has served as principal oboe of the New York Chamber Orchestra. Since 1985 Ms.Watt has played principal oboe with the Bethlehem Bach Choir with whom she has also appeared as soloist and has played obbligato arias with singers including Arleen Auger and Jan De Gaetani.

DANIEL GILBERT, clarinetist - He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree form Yale University and a Master of Music degree and Professional Studies certificate from The Juilliard School. Currently Principal Clarinet of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared as soloist with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Solisti of New York, and Aspen chamber Symphony. Mr.Gilbert attended since 1981, the Aspen Music Festival, where he presently holds the Eb Clarinet position in the Festival Orchestra. His teachers have included David Weber, Robert Marcellus, Richard Waller, Burt Hara and Judith Kalin-Freeman.

BARBARA OLDHAM, horn - A founding member of Quintet of the Americas, has appeared as a chamber recitalist with the Marlboro Music Festival, St.Luke's Chamber Ensemble, Festival Brass, Composer's Brass Quintet, and as a soloist at the Westchester Chamber Music Festival. She has served as principal horn with the Merrick Symphony, Contreras Chamber Ensemble, New York Lyric Opera, Opera Northeast, West End Symphony and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia.
