Costa Rica is a land dominated by mountains and has an abundance of water. The flows for any particular month of the year are more reliable than those in North America. The reason for this reliability is the fact than the variability of precipitation is quite low throughout the humid tropic. The rugged terrain combined with the drainage network and the great volume of runoff provide more opportunities for whitewater paddling than any other area of comparable dimensions.

Aguas Bravas has been pioneer in tourism of the Fortuna area (near Arenal Volcano), with local bilingual guides who offer extensive knowledge of the region and its diversity, as well as being qualified in rescue techniques and CPR. In five years of operation, we have never needed to issue a claim against our accident insurance policy.

Due to its shape, flow and topographic conditions, the Sarapiquí river offers maximum security to its visitors. The sections are clearly defined and travel parallel the main road. This allows us to separate into smaller groups and make trips to different sections of the river, rejoining at lunch time. The spring of Sarapiquí river is located on the Barva Volcano. The flow travels 85 kilometers of preserve and low-population areas until it reaches the San Juan river.

As a result, these unpolluted waters are surrounded by spectacular rainforest and have become a unique place to enjoy an observation or bird-watching ride, as well as the adventure of white water rafting. We use high-quality equipment that meets all security requirements (helmet, life vest, security cords, etc.), and experienced guides that will allow you to enjoy a safe adventure.

AGUAS BRAVAS is a 100% Costa Rican operation that specializes in adventure tourism. Our white water rafting site is located in the town of Sarapiqui on the river by the same name, only 2 hours from San Jose. The site may be reached by an excellent road that crosses the wonderful Braulio Carrillo National Park, one of the few tropical rain forests left in the world.
	A half hour from the Park, we have established our AGUAS BRAVAS ARENAL OUTDOOR CENTER in the town of la Fortuna, a meeting center for tourist due to its proximity to the magical Arenal Volcano, well-known the world over for its activity and majestic cone. Tours depart from San Jose, La Fortuna and Sarapiqui with the additional option of combining all three areas in a single tour package.

FOR YOUR SAFETY: Our clients, prior departure, are informed on all of the instructions and procedures to perform in case of any emergency situation on the river. The fact that we have local guides allows us to keep constant vigilance of the river to ensure the optimal conditions for your trip. Each group is escorted by a safety kayak to insure the rescue of anybody that may fall from one of the boats during the trip. We use high-quality equipment from well-known brands, such as: Northwest River Supplies and APEX. We have a strict trip cancellation policy in the event that the river conditions present a potential danger to participants
