Educating for the 21st Century: |
Offered from July 13 - 18, 2009.
The world is changing at an extremely rapid pace, affecting the essence of how we learn, interact, and work. It is more imperative than ever before to build capacity in our students to contemplate and pursue engaged citizenship, both locally and globally. As educators, can we create learning experiences to equip our students for a future that is constantly changing? This week-long course is designed for educators working in formal and informal settings, within institutions and in grassroots community contexts. During the course, we will explore a variety of pedagogical approaches and real-life examples that take into account the challenges and opportunities facing education and society in the 21st century. The course will demonstrate the need for the integration of intercultural skills and peace education into current curriculum. |
The course is designed to be practical and hands-on, with space for sharing and reflection. The mornings will be typically spent on the campus of the University for Peace, complemented by afternoon fieldtrips. The course will travel to the most scenic cloudforest region of Monteverde for the last couple of days of the course. For a more detailed itinerary, please see 'Overview of week'.
$1,950. This tuition fee includes all course materials, field visits, accomodation with a local host family (hotel accommodation can be arranged for an additional $150), 2 nights hotel in Monteverde (double occupancy) and several meals. Not included: Air travel to Costa Rica, airport pick-up and drop off, and personal items. All participants will be awarded a certificate from UPEACE upon completion of the course.
