The Historic Nicaragua tour will let you explore the untouched hidden wonders of Nicaragua. Beginning in the twin volcanic island of Ometepe and its ancient petroglyphs, carved on basaltic rock thousand years ago by Nahuas tribes.

Ometepe’s nature and welcoming people will definitely charm you. You will also visit the city of Granada, a colonial jewel and one of the two most well preserved Spanish-influenced cities in Central America. While you are traveling to this area of Nicaragua you will get the changce to visit the Masaya active volcano and its non-stopping steaming crater Santiago will thrill you as well as its volcanic landscapes.

Moving to the south east of Nicaragua you will embark, over the next few days on the nature part of your tour which includes the San Juan river, Indio Maiz and Los Guatuzos. This area is an essential part of  Nicaragua' s eco-system including its rainforest, wet lands, river systems and tributaries to Lake Nicaragua.  Historic Nicaragua will definitely make you discover a great part of its history, nature and people.

Day 1: Ometepe Island – Playa Santo Domingo.
This journey will begin with the ferry boat to the volcanic island of Ometepe. During our safari/transfer, we’ll be up close not only to the scenery, but also the day-to-day activities of the island’s inhabitants...

Day 2: Playa Santo Domingo – Altagracia - Granada.
After breakfast, we’ll start toward the town of Alta Gracia, visiting the little church and museum. Then we will return to the mainland and drive to the colonial capital Granada...

Day 3: Catarina – Market of Masaya - Volcano Masaya – Managua.
On the way to today’s destination, Masaya, we’ll pass by the village of Catarina to enjoy the remarkable view of the Apoyo Lagoon from its lookout point...

Day 4 : Managua - San Carlos – El Castillo.
In the morning we will leave Managua for San Carlos, the center of the San Juan river basin region. By boat, along the river, we will reach the town of “El Castillo”...

Day 5: Rain Forest Indio Maiz.
Today is for the nature lover. We’ll travel by a river boat further into the jungle of the San Juan River. Here, we’ll start a tour into the Indio-Maiz biological Reserve, one of the most important of Central America. The reserve is unparalleled for tropical beauty...

Day 6 : San Juan River - Solentíname.
After breakfast, we will start our journey back to San Carlos and then move on to the
peaceful islands of Solentíname. We will take our lunch at our hostal and in the afternoon, we will enjoy a trip through the Archipelago visiting the painters and the local wood carvers from Solentíname...

 

Day 7: Los Guatuzos Reserve - Managua.
Early in the morning, we will explore by boat the incredible nature and wildlife of the Guatuzos Reserve. Bird watching here is excellent. Return to San Carlos and flight to Managua, or continue on to Costa-Rica.
