| This is an unforgettable day in rural Nicaragua. We begin by visiting the stunning and active Santiago crater and museum situated in the Masaya National Park, followed by a trip to Nicaragua’s most popular open-air crafts market located in Masaya and a lunch time sampling of traditional food (bocadillos). From the famous hammocks from Masaya, the pottery of San Juan de Oriente, the wood carvings, the leather goods, the of primitivism painting or the handmade cigars, the visitor will not only have the opportunity to buy at excellent prices, but also to enjoy meeting the artists. | León and Hot Springs | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| On the way to the historic former capital city of León, we will pass beautiful vistas of Lake Managua, the breathtaking Momotombo volcano, and much of Nicaragua’s agricultural heartland. While in León, we will enjoy the charm of this cultural city - its churches, monuments, markets, - and learn about its history, including its most famous former resident- Rubén Darío, Father of Nicaraguan poetry. On our return trip we will stop at the San Jacinto hot springs, to see the volcanic phenomena of the boiling soil, situated on the foot of the Telica-Rota volcanic chain. - Recommended gear: good walking shoes, light clothing, drinking water. | ![]() |

| Managua City Tour | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| During this half-day excursion we will see evidence of the 1972 earthquake on old Managua, as well as the emerging new capital that is growing rapidly. We will visit both the old and new Cathedrals, Lakes Managua and Xiloa, tour the recently renovated National Palace, home to Nicaragua's culture museum, and visit a thriving market. This tour presents the dramatic difference between the rich and the poor. Political propaganda can be seen everywhere. Managua, Nicaragua's capital, with more than 1/3 of the country’s population is a city that’s alive, growing rapidly, and shows the visitors daily life in an unforgettable way. - Recommended gear: light, comfortable clothing | ![]() |

| The Mombacho Volcano is the guard of the city of Granada. Her summit, at over 1,300 meters, is a unique microclimate for the region, because of its altitude and frequent cloud cover. This impressive forest is protected and now part of the Natural Reserve of Nicaragua. We will drive from the savanna at the volcano’s base up through coffee farms, into the cloud forest, with its unusual array of orchids, ferns, butterflies, birds, monkeys, and, when the weather’s right, fantastic views of Granada and the surrounding countryside. | Islands of Zapatera and region | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The island of Zapatera, the second largest of the Nicaragua Lake, is famous for its rich pre-Columbian past and the archeological finds. This region was the meeting point and the exchange place of many Indian tribes traveling throughout Central and South America. Starting from the "Isletas" of Granada, this tour combines the visit of the pre-Columbian stele of the Muerto Island, a refreshing bath in the water of the great lake, a hike by the lagoon of Zapatera, and the discovering of rural life of this region of Nicaragua. - Recommended gear: Solar protection, rain jacket, solid walking shoes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The Cerro Negro and hot Springs of San Jacinto | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Born in 1850, the Cerro Negro volcano ( Black mountain ) is one of the youngest volcanoes in the world. During the last 8 years it's activity left indelible marks on the region. In 1992, lava ash completely covered León, the second largest city of Nicaragua. Hiking the lunar landscape of the volcano, descending its crater and admiring the surrounding landscape is an unforgettable and exciting experience. | Fishing day in fresh waters | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Lake Nicaragua, of almost 8,200 square Km is one of the ten biggest fresh water lakes in the world. This lake is an amazing natural habitat of numerous kinds of aquatic life. Our local guide will take the fisherman with a good powered Boston Whaler to his secret places near the Island of Zapatera. The Guapote ( Rainbow Bass ), Tilapia, Mojarra are the most common types you will catch on this unforgettable day. Some snacks, food and drinks will be available to get the most out of of this day.
