Costa Rica Airline Update for September 2, 2020

Latest weekly update for flight/airline into and out of Costa Rica during the coronavirus pandemic as of September 2, 2020.

The first Iberia flight from Madrid arrived on August 3. Since then, that airline and also Germany’s Lufthansa have been operating twice-weekly services from Madrid and Frankfurt. In the list below you’ll see these two airlines (with their schedules) in bold. We’ll keep updating this list on a weekly or bi-weekly basis until everything is in bold.

Please find below the official Costa Rica flight information as of September 2, 2020.

Aeroméxico: All operations suspended until further notice.

Air Canada: San Jose (SJO) operations to resume on October 3 to/from Toronto. Liberia (LIR) operations to resume on October 6 to/from Toronto. 

Air France: San Jose (SJO) operations to resume on October 14 to/from Paris. 

Air Panama: All operations suspended until further notice.

Air Transat: All operations suspended until further notice.

Alaska: Information still pending from the airline.

Albatros Airlines: All operations suspended until further notice.

American Airlines: Information still pending from the airline. Weekly (every Thursday) repatriation/rescue flights between San Jose (SJO) and Miami will operate throughout September. 

Avianca: San Jose (SJO) operations to resume on September 20 to/from San Salvador. At this time, this route will only be open to passengers in transit from countries authorized to visit Costa Rica and/or Costa Rican citizens/residents.  

British Airways: San Jose (SJO) operations to resume on October 27 to/from London.

Condor: Information still pending from the airline.

Costa Rica Green Airways (domestic airline): Available for private charter internal charter flights.

Copa Airlines: San Jose (SJO) repatriation/rescue flights to Panama City (and from there to the US and other countries) on September 10, September 11, September 16, September 17, September 18, September 23, September 24, and September 25.

Delta Airlines: Information still pending from the airline. 

Edelweiss: San Jose (SJO) operations to resume on October 15 to/from Zurich.

Iberia: San Jose (SJO) operations have resumed as of Monday, August 3. Iberia will be flying to Costa Rica from Madrid (MAD) on Mondays and Fridays (returning SJO to MAD on Tuesdays and Saturdays) for the time being. 

Interjet: Information still pending from the airline.

JetBlue: Information still pending from the airline.

KLM: All operations suspended until further notice.

Latam: Information still pending from airline.

Lufthansa: San Jose (SJO) operations have resumed as of  Wednesday, August 5. Lufthansa will be flying to Costa Rica from Frankfurt (FRA) on Wednesdays and Saturdays (returning SJO to FRA on Wednesdays and Saturdays) for the time being.

Sansa (domestic airline): Charter flights now available.

Skyway (domestic airline): Information still pending from airline.

Southwest: Operations to resume in 2021.

Spirit: Information still pending from the airline. 

United: Daily flights between San Jose (SJO) and Newark to resume from September 3. Thrice-weekly flights (Thursday/Saturday/Sunday) between Liberia (LIR) and Newark to resume from September 5. Repatriation/rescue flights to/from Houston on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays throughout September. 

Volaris: Information still pending from the airline.

WestJet: All operations suspended until further notice.

Wingo: Information still pending from the airline.

All passengers should contact their airlines directly through their own official channels. You’ll find their Costa Rican telephone numbers here on the Juan Santamaria Airport website. Any of the flights listed above are subject to last minute cancellation or change. 

The current COVID-19 pandemic is ever-changing and flight info will change all the time. We’ll keep this list updated as things change. Freight operations into and out of Costa Rica remain unchanged.
