Aug 26, 2020

Latest Costa Rica update for flights into and out of Costa Rica during the coronavirus pandemic as of August 26, 2020.

The first Iberia flight from Madrid arrived on August 3. Since then, that airline and also Germany’s Lufthansa have been operating twice-weekly services from Madrid and Frankfurt. In the list below you’ll see these two airlines (with their schedules) in bold. We’ll keep updating this list on a weekly or bi-weekly basis until everything is in bold.

Since our last weekly update, the big news is that Costa Rica will be allowing tourists from six US states to enter the country from September 1. If you live in, and have provable residence of New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont, or Maine, you can come to Costa Rica starting next week.

All international flights into/out of Costa Rica now use Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO), the main international airport in Alajuela that serves San Jose. Liberia Airport (LIR) in Guanacaste is still not open for international flights but in light of the US announcement, will be resuming some routes in September.
