Love is in the air today, and Central America is no different to anywhere else when it comes to Valentine’s Day. To some in Central America, Valentine’s Day is nothing more than a hyped-up, over-commercialized, and cynical way to sell flowers and chocolates (or is that just me?).

To others, it’s a day of romance and love, of sharing with the world your love for your better half and doing gooey, couple-y things that make the rest of us sick or jealous (again, is this only me?).

Whatever your views on Valentine’s Day are, if you’re in Central America, you’re already in a romantic spot. Beautiful scenery and great weather are always romantic, and Central America has both in abundance, especially in February, when the weather is officially gorgeous.

But where are the most romantic hotels in Central America? We took a spin around the internet, added some of our personal recommendations from living in Central America, and came up with a wonderfully-romantic hotel in each country. Let’s check them out.

Belize: Blancaneaux Lodge

The Blancaneaux Lodge is a luxurious eco-retreat owned the Coppola family (of movie director Francis Ford Coppola fame). It sits surrounded by forest in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve in Cayo District, in western Belize.

Couples can enjoy their own luxury private cabañas with private plunge pools, or the Honeymoon Cabaña. This hotel could also have the best spa in Belize.

Costa Rica: Nayara Springs

Nayara Springs is an adult-only, award-winning, luxury hotel in the Arenal Volcano area of Costa Rica. Guests here will enjoy their own private, hot-spring-fed jacuzzis, ultra-personalized service, and privacy. This place could actually be one of the most romantic hotels in the world, let alone Costa Rica or Central America.

El Salvador: Casa de Mar

Casa de Mar is a perfect retreat for beach loving and surfing couples. Located in El Sunzal, near La Libertad, El Salvador. Couples coming here will find comfortable ocean view rooms/suites – some with private plunge pools – and great service.

Although child-friendly, this hotel is far more geared to adults than to families, which goes to enhance the romantic vibe.

Guatemala: Casa Santo Domingo

Casa Santo Domingo is an elegant, luxurious hotel in the colonial city of Antigua, Guatemala. Each room is unique, decorated with local works of art. If you’re feeling ultra-romantic, make sure you book a room or suite with a jacuzzi.

The rooms also come with fireplaces for relaxing in front of on chilly evenings.

Honduras: Ibagari Boutique Hotel

Ibagari is a beachfront boutique hotel in West Bay, on the western end of the island of Roatán, Honduras. If you’re a beach loving couple, you’ll love this place. And if you’re a scuba diving couple, you’ll be in watery, romantic heaven here.

Panama: Isla Palenque

Isla Palenque is a private island in Gulf of Chiriqui off the Pacific coast of western Panama. It comprises eight beachfront casitas on a 400-acre island with seven beaches. So you know a stay on Isla Palenque offers the best in barefoot luxury and privacy for any couple seeking a romantic break.

A stay at any of these hotels needn’t be only for Valentine’s Day.

Each of these places offers romance and adventure any time of the year. And there are plenty of other places, too, and other romantic locations. The beaches of Costa Rica ooze romance, as does Lake Atitlán in Guatemala, Casco Viejo in Panama City, or Suchitoto in El Salvador.

But these are the places we chose for now, and we hope you like them. What’s your favorite romantic hotel in Central America?
