Our Top Ten Most Popular Instagram Photos Of 2020

Join us as we look back over Central America’s 2020 in pictures.  Check out our top ten most popular Instagram photos of 2020.

For the third year, we’re proud to publish our ten most popular Instagram photos. Feel free to check out our most popular pics of 2018 and 2019 if you want, or just get stuck into 2020.

You might think 2020 was a year to forget and we wouldn’t disagree. But that doesn’t mean the region stopped being so damn beautiful as to stop a plethora of stunning snaps.

In 2018, it was photos from Guatemala and Costa Rica that dominated our top ten. Then last year, mostly Costa Rica. This year Costa Rica stays popular, but Panama finds itself popular with tons of you showing appreciation for that country.

As ever, all our pics are taken by you, the faithful Instagrammer. We just collate the best ones we can. Please keep snapping and keep on tagging us or hashtagging #centralamericaliving and get your pics noticed in 2021.

Anyway, with no further ado, enjoy our most popular images of 2020. If you love this region, please give the original photographers some love by following them. You won’t regret it!

10. Our tenth most popular Instagram image of 2020 comes from Caye Caulker, Belize, where @cayecaulkerbz took this awesome image of stingrays and pelicans having a pow wow. This Instagram account no longer exists since we posted this in June 2020, which is a pity. But we’ll always have stingrays and pelicans.

9. A stunning shot of Panama’s “Isla de Flores”, Taboga Island by @panamadaily. This island lies in the Gulf of Panama about 20 km from Panama City. Easy to see why it’s a super-popular weekend vacation spot for a break away from the city.

8. The cobbled streets of Copan Ruinas (complete with obligatory tuk tuk), Honduras taken by the Instagram account of the local El Bosque Hotel.

7. Pavones is down at the bottom of Costa Rica, way down next to Panama on the Pacific coast. It’s famous in the global surfing community for its long, long, loooong left wave, one of the longest on the planet. In this aerial shot from @unaolasurfcamp, you can see why.

6. @lafotocr has emerged as one of our favorite Instagrammers in Costa Rica in 2020. This image of a road through the forest near Turrialba sums up his understated style. He’s definitely a photographer worth following.

5. There’s nothing like a solid tourist photo and the iconic Santa Catalina Arch in Antigua, Guatemala is about as touristy as it gets. Nothing wrong with that at all. This is why you come here. Thanks to @soykevinveliz for this shot.

3. Another shot of the Amador Causeway in Panama City, Panama, this one a stunning aerial shot showing the city in the background. @jbalari, the Instagrammer who took this, is no longer around, it seems, which is a pity, given how beautiful this picture is.

2. We have to say we always love the images that come from the Instagram account of Hotel Catalina in Jaco, Costa Rica. Their morning videos and images of Jaco Beach most mornings are something to look forward to. But their most popular image this year, at least out of the ones reposted on our account, is this pic of Costa Rica’s beautiful banknotes.

1. Our most popular Instagram image of 2020 comes from Costa Rica. This is the third year in a row a Costa Rica picture has been our most-liked. The 2020 champion is a fantastic piece of surf photography from @jim_gomez_. It depicts Witches Rock in Guanacaste’s Santa Rosa National Park in all its splendid glory. In a year where beach access has been a major issue in Costa Rica, it’s great to see a picture like this take our number one spot.

Thanks to everyone who posts pics of Central America. We love looking for your images and seeing if we can boost your profiles, blogs, and businesses on our page. Keep on tagging us and we’ll keep on promoting your work in 2021. And remember to follow us at Central America Living!
