Celebrating Belize Independence Day: 40 Images of Belize at 40

Today we celebrate Belize Independence Day! And it’s a big one too – Today Belize reaches the grand old age of 40, which is when life begins…

Happy birthday Belize! 2021 is a big year for anniversaries and birthdays in Central America. Last week, we celebrated the 200th birthday of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. An important milestone, to be sure. Today, though it’s the turn of Belize to reach its own milestone.

On September 21, 1981, Belize achieved its independence from the UK. Belize is now, officially, 40 years old.

To celebrate this, we’re not going to get introspective. We did that last year, picking out positive points in a pandemic year. This year, Belize’s 40th, things aren’t much better. The country finds itself under curfew and, like in the rest of the region, the party won’t be the big one it would be in normal times.

But Belize Independence Day deserves recognition. Central America’s youngest country won’t be ignored on its 40th.

To honor this special day, we’ve gone through our Instagram archives and pulled out the 40 most popular images – photos and videos – of the last year, since Belize hit 39.

A picture speaks a thousand words, they say. So, without further ado, get scrolling to see some special images of The Jewel.  By checking out these images, you’ll see exactly why they call Belize “The Jewel” in the first place.

Happy birthday Belize and let’s celebrate properly next year!

We hope you liked all these images to honor Belize Independence Day 2021.

If you’re in Belize, send us your own photos, please. Let us know how you’re celebrating this special day.

Happy 40th Belize!
