Join us as we look back over 2019 in Central America in pictures.  Check out our top ten most popular Instagram photos of 2019.

For the second year in a row, we’re proud to publish our top ten most popular Instagram photos. This time last year, we published the most popular pics of 2018, and so now it’s time to see what our followers loved in 2019.

It was a funny old year, I think.

I remember  Guatemala and Costa Rica dominating our list last year. This year, it’s pretty much all Costa Rica, with a smattering of Panama, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Maybe we’ll see the rest of the region represented more in 2020.

We can’t be everywhere, so we rely on travelers, tourists, and locals to get their phones and snap away, capturing life, love, and scenery all over Central America. If you tag us and/or hashtag #centralamericaliving, you’ll get our attention.

Anyway, with no further ado, enjoy our most popular images of 2019. If you love this region, please give the original photographers some love by following them. You won’t regret it!

10. Great drone shot of the sacred crater lake of Chicabal, in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, by Vuelvotenango. Follow these guys for awesome aerial photos of Guatemala.

9. This a great pic of one of our favorite hotels in Costa Rica, the Springs Resort & Spa, taken by Costa Rican creative agency Nomad Design House.

8. This one might be my personal favorite Instagram image of 2019. I just love this kid and his dogs in rural El Salvador. Congrats to ElSalvadorApie for this one.

7. Costa Rica’s Mario Murillo has been one of our favorite Central American Instagrammers for some time now. Check out his feed and you’ll see why. In the meantime, his amazing drone shot of Puntarenas, Costa Rica’s “El Puerto”, makes its way into our 10 most popular pics of 2019.

6. Pizotes might be our favorite Central American animals, but tapirs are just as cool. Cooler, in fact, as they’re incredibly hard to see. That’s why when you capture a shot like this, in northern Costa Rica, it deserves all the recognition it gets. Thanks to Casitas Tenorio B&B for publishing this.

5. Another animal in Costa Rica makes it into our top ten. This time a super cute raccoon in Cahuita National Park on the Caribbean side by another one of our favorite photographers, Axel Chavarria.

4. Panama City represents in our 2019 Top Ten with this superb drone image of a freighter passing underneath the Bridge of the Americas across the Canal. Great work, Kats Tours Panama!

3. Another Panama photo here from the stunning Bocas del Toro archipelago on the Caribbean side of the country. Unfortunately, the “Curioseando Mexico y el Mundo” account that took this pic at the famous Starfish Beach no longer seems to exist. But we’ll give them a shout out in case they ever come back.

2. Guillermo Cortes has a great future on Instagram ahead of him if he wants. We’ll certainly repost his pics all day long if he takes more like this of the town of La Fortuna, Costa Rica. Check out that sky. Check out that volcano!

1. And our most popular Instagram image of 2019 also comes from Costa Rica, courtesy of travel team RoadPins. This shot from the Braulio Carrillo National Park went viral when we reposted it in September. This is the tunnel through the mountain on the main highway through the park between San Jose and the Caribbean coast. Congrats guys for making our number one spot!
