Traveling to Guatemala? Here Are Our Favorite Lake Atitlán Hotels

The Lake Atitán area in Guatemala is famous throughout Central America for its sheer natural beauty. In recent years, a number of boutique hotels have opened up around the lake for the more discerning and individual travel. In this article, writer Amanda Winstead lists her favorite Lake Atitlán hotels.

Guatemala is on many people’s travel bucket lists, and Lake Atitlán is often right at the top. Famously described by the 18th century explorer Alexander von Humboldt as the most beautiful lake in the world, visitors will find this lake in the Guatemalan highlands surrounded by volcanoes and indigenous Mayan communities. Atitlán is, in short, unforgettable. With its pure natural beauty, indigenous culture, and wide range of activities, Lake Atitlán has something for everyone.

But where to stay? Gone are the days where the only accommodations you’d find around Lake Atlitán were budget hostels filled with backpackers. Nowadays, the villages around Lake Atitlán are home to some of Guatemala’s most unique boutique hotels. Below, we list some of our favorite.
