Costa Rica Flight/Airline Update December 30, 2020

Costa Rica flight/airline information update: Latest weekly update for flights and airlines flying into into Costa Rica during the coronavirus pandemic as of December 30, 2020.

The first Iberia flight from Madrid arrived on August 3. Since then, Aeromexico, Alaska, Air Canada, Air France, American Airlines, Avianca, Copa, Delta, Edelweiss, JetBlue, KLM, Lufthansa, Spirit, United, Volaris, and Wingo have also restarted operations.  Domestic airline Sansa is also flying again. You’ll see these airlines in bold. We’ll keep updating this list on a weekly basis until everything is in bold.

 

The only update is Edelweiss resuming its service between San Jose and Zurich, Switzerland.

At this stage, most airlines either have their restart dates fixed or they’re holding off until things clear up regarding potential further lockdowns in Europe and/or North America. It’s possible that positive news regarding vaccine rollouts may start moving things forward again in the coming weeks.

Aeroméxico: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in October to/from Mexico City. 

Air Canada: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in November to/from Toronto. 

Air France: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in October to/from Paris. 

Air Transat: All operations suspended until further notice.

Alaska: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in November to/from Los Angeles.

Albatros Airlines: All operations suspended until further notice.

American Airlines: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in September to/from Dallas and Miami. Liberia (LIR) operations resumed in October to/from Miami and Dallas.

Avianca: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in November to/from San Salvador and Bogota.

British Airways: Operations to resume in 2021.

Condor: Information still pending from the airline.

Costa Rica Green Airways (domestic airline): Available for private charter internal charter flights.

Copa Airlines: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in September to/from Panama City and in November to/from Guatemala City. 

Delta Airlines: San Jose (SJO) and Liberia (LIR) operations resumed in November to/from Atlanta. SJO operations resumed December 17 to/from Los Angeles. LIR operations resumed December 19 to/from Los Angeles and Minneapolis.

Edelweiss: San Jose (SJO) operations to/from Zurich resumed December 23.

Iberia: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in August to/from Madrid. 

Interjet: Information still pending from the airline.

JetBlue: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in November to/from Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and New York. San Jose operations resumed in December to/from Los Angeles. Liberia (LIR) operations to/from New York resumed in November and to/from Los Angeles in December. 

KLM: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in November to/from Amsterdam.

Latam: Operations to resume in 2021.

Lufthansa: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in August. 

Sansa (domestic airline): Local operations have returned.

Skyway (domestic airline): Information still pending from airline.

Southwest: Operations to resume in 2021.

Spirit: Operations resumed in September between San Jose (SJO) and Fort Lauderdale.

United: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in September to/from Newark and Houston, and in November to/from Chicago. Flights between Liberia (LIR) and Newark and Houston resumed in September. San Jose operations resumed December 19 to/from Denver, Washington DC, and Los Angeles. LIR operations to/from Denver resumed November 7, and Chicago on December 19, The LIR-Los Angeles route will resume on January 8.

Volaris: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed in October to/from Mexico City (via Guatemala City) and in November to/from Cancun. 

WestJet: Information still pending from the airline.

Wingo: San Jose (SJO) operations resumed December 4 to/from Bogota.
